ISACo endeavors to improve county government by identifying needs and solutions. We provide a united voice for counties while recognizing that different regions of the state sometimes have different needs and perspectives. ISACo works to respect and balance these differences while pursuing state and federal policies that benefit counties and their residents generally.

Illinois Department of Agriculture to Offer Free Recycling Program for Agrichemical Containers

The Illinois Department of Agriculture (IDOA) encourages farmers and agrichemical facilities to take part in a free agrichemical container recycling program. Beginning in the middle of July and continuing into August, sites throughout the state will collect containers that are recycled to make shipping pallets.

Governor Pritzker Announces $56 Million in Available Grant Funding for Community Development Block Grant Programs

Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) announced $56 million in funding is available for the Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG) for Public Infrastructure ($25 million), Housing Rehabilitation ($15 million), Community Revitalization ($13 million), and Emergency Assistance ($3 million). Grantees will be selected through a competitive Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) process.

IDOL Secures Nearly $400,000 in Back Wages for Workers Under Prevailing Wage Act

The Illinois Department of Labor (IDOL) has recovered significant unpaid wages and assessed penalties against three employers found in violation of the Illinois Prevailing Wage Act (PWA), reinforcing the agency’s commitment to protecting workers and ensuring a level playing field for law-abiding contractors. In separate enforcement actions, IDOL recovered a combined total of more than $398,000 in back wages for 29 workers.

The County Lens: Do Counties Have a Stake in Artificial Intelligence Regulation?

This publication of The County Lens by ISACo Executive Director Joe McCoy discusses a series of artificial intelligence proposals introduced by Illinois legislators. The proposals are aimed at establishing new consumer protections, transparency requirements, and safety standards for AI technologies. Three recently introduced Senate floor amendments would address issues ranging from AI safety audits and chatbot disclosures to protections for minors and individuals experiencing mental health crises. While many of the proposals are focused on the private sector, county governments are likely to be affected, directly or indirectly, by any regulatory structure implemented by the state.
