The following is an overview of the November 5 election results in Illinois. All results are as of November 12, 2024.
President of the United States
The State of Illinois’ 19 electoral votes were won by Vice President Kamala Harris. Vice President Harris prevailed 54.1% - 44.5% over former President Donald Trump in the Prairie State.
United States House of Representatives
Illinois’ 17 members of the United States House of Representatives were up for re-election in 2024. All 17 seats were retained by the incumbents. The State will continue to be represented by 14 Democrats and 3 Republicans in the House of Representatives. The State has 19 electoral votes, which includes the two Senators who were not up for re-election.
General Assembly
Democrats retained their House and Senate supermajorities in the General Assembly. The only remaining question is the size of the margin in the House.
House Democrats prevailed in 77 races and House Republicans won 37 contests. Four races remain uncalled as of November 12. Republicans lead in three of those races.
There were 24 contests in the Senate in 2024. Democrats will retain the 40 seats they currently hold.
Supermajorities require 71 votes in the House and 36 votes in the Senate.

Civil Penalties for Election Worker Interference
Should any candidate appearing on the Illinois ballot for federal, State, or local office be subject to civil penalties if the candidate interferes or attempts to interfere with an election worker’s official duties?
Approved 88.8% to 11.2%
Create New Tax Bracket
Should the Illinois Constitution be amended to create an additional 3% tax on income greater than $1,000,000 for the purpose of dedicating funds raised to property tax relief?
Approved 60.4% to 39.6%
Expand Reproductive Health Coverage
Should all medically appropriate assisted reproductive treatments, including, but not limited to, in vitro fertilization, be covered by any health insurance plan in Illinois that provides coverage for pregnancy benefits, without limitation on the number of treatments?
Approved 72.4% to 27.6%
County Secession Referenda
Seven downstate counties voted to consider seceding from Illinois to form a new state. They are as follows:
- Calhoun County (76% Approved)
- Clinton County (71% Approved)
- Green County (74% Approved)
- Iroquois County (72% Approved)
- Jersey County (73% Approved)
- Madison County (56% Approved)
- Perry County (71% Approved)
Actions by the General Assembly and Congress are necessary before a county can secede from the State of Illinois and become part of a new state.
